We are defining how the promiscuous intracellular parasite Toxoplasma gondii exploits the host ESCRT machinery to endocytose and degrade material from the cytosol of infected cells. We are also identifying mechanisms of autophagy in the parasite that facilitate its persistence in its hosts. To gain such insights we utilize a variety of forward and reverse genetic approaches in concert with advanced fluorescence microscopy and image analysis modalities.
